The project scope included renovation of the VA Marion Medical Center Nursing Home, Building 43 in Marion, Illinois. The project goal was to replace existing finishes with new, more durable and maintenance free materials which could provide the patients with a more home like atmosphere. The interior finishes in the corridors and cafeteria were replaced with the same goals in mind. Patient vanity areas within the patient bedrooms were replaced and updated, built in wood laminate cabinetry with cabinets and open shelving was provided on each side and over each bed location accommodating the existing bed locators and equipment. Built within the cabinetry was tackable surfacing which provided an area for veterans to display pictures and memorabilia. Storage units were provided for patient personal belongings, clean and dirty laundry, etc. The existing VCT flooring was also replaced with health care grade vinyl floor covering with wood appearance which allowed for a more inviting and home-like atmosphere throughout all patient bedrooms, corridors and patient accessible cafeteria and dining areas.
